sometimes i go to the gym. i prefer to go to the court, or to the field, or to the mountains, or the the beach, or to the track, or to the trail. but sometimes, i go to the gym. and when i do, i HIIT it.
in the words of Eric Salvador, NASM, NSCA, head instructor at The Fhitting Room in NYC, “A high-intensity workout increases the body’s need for oxygen during the effort and creates an oxygen shortage, causing your body to ask for more oxygen during recovery.”
in the words of vanessa, fitness fanatic, athlete, and head word splurger at thefirst2hours, HIIT (high-intensity interval training), is a training technique that forces you to give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise.
you are on a clock, and your results are being recorded to compare with your next attempt at the work out, so excuses get you nowhere. you can’t argue the numbers, so either you work hard, and increase your reps in the given time frame, or you slack off, and waste your time.
so here it is, HIIT workout numero uno from thefirst2hours. i am minimizing excuse opportunities for my readers to not try this out for themselves, because this workout:
– requires zero equipment
– is only 30 minutes in length
– and it is free!
complete 4 rounds of the exercises. and be sure to count your reps and record your results so that you can track your improvements going forward.
HIIT workouts get my heart rate up and burn more fat in less time. but on top of that, i like HIIT because it keeps me focused. i rarely do a gym workout without a watch these days. i have no need to do heavy reps, i like pushing myself until i feel i am going to crumble, and when HITTing it, i am able to put together a mix of exercises that yields a full body work out, with cardio mixed in.
this am, i HIIT it myself, in hopes of providing some motivation to others.
it was a great way to start my day. i love getting my heart pumping in thefirst2hours. and to top it off, the sun was rising just as i left the gym, to make for a beautiful jog home.
what is your favorite form of work out when you go to the gym?
