recently, i was asked about the meaning of my blog name, and i thought i would reiterate that answer here, as it is relevant to this post:
“thefirst2hours, are the favorite two hours of my days. i love stepping outside before the sun rises, and being surrounded by silence. those moments of solitude are the most beautiful moments i know, and they are precious to my being.
thefirst2hours are also the most important two hours of my days. life in this day and age is busy, and it has become far too easy to compromise our health for all of our obligations. but ultimately, it is our decision to make. it is within those first2hours, that i vow i will wake up early, get outside, raise my heart rate, see the world, and not waste those precious moments. i choose to make myself a priority.”
the best athlete i ever knew, is a red head. he has four legs, goes by the name of gunner, and he is fast. gunner is a vizsla, and he loves to be active. thankfully, so do joe and i. and this past weekend, we were all active together, in a sweet little mountain town called mccall.
last week i was honored with a bit of bloggers’ recognition. thank you to everyone who reads my blog, and to lisa, “the fitster”, for the nomination!
in rambling on about my adventures and my enthusiasm for living an active life, i can only hope that someone, somewhere will read one of my posts regarding fitness and feel encouraged to get out the door and move their body. i hope that at least once, someone has read one of my posts while sitting at their computer at work, and laughed at loud. i hope that someone seeking help and guidance about getting healthy, has read my blog and made a decision to change their habits, and their life.
through this nomination, i feel i’ve received a bit of confirmation that my hopes are being fulfilled, and i am thrilled.
many people in this world have traveling jobs. i am one of those people. and on my my last flight home from new orleans, i met another. this fellow work traveler mentioned how much he disliked his work trips. i was interested in hearing how someone could possibly dislike taking a trip to new orleans, even if it was for work, so our conversation continued.
this man didn’t seem to have any specific stories about his week that made it particularly awful. it didn’t sound like he worked any extreme hours. and it didn’t sound like he spends nearly as much time traveling as i do. but he seemed completely uninspired by the whole week he had just spent in one of the most flavorful cities of the U.S.
our conversation ended, and i was stumped.
i can’t help but wonder about that man, and about others like him.
for three consecutive years i have traveled to new orleans for work. there is a lot to squeeze in to any trip to NOLA, especially when my daylight hours are completely booked with meetings; but my volleyball outings will never be compromised in this great city. the facilities and people of the new orleans volleyball community are irresistable.
i have a confession. i started an instagram page. and i did it for you. maybe a bit for myself, but mostly, i did it for those of you that are reading my blog. and in the process, i am having a lot of fun.
