Loading up on “Vitamin G”

getting my outdoor fix, means getting my sanity; and apparently i am not the only one.  some experts now refer to time in green space as “Vitamin G,” and their studies have shown extensive benefits in getting outside.  it is no secret that i love to be outside, as is demonstrated here, here, here and here.

and in desperation to fill up on Vitamin G last week, i set out for the foothills, for a family outing and a half day hike.

Shakti Vinyasa Yoga

the real truth is, i never thought i would be a big yoga lover. i’ve always been a yoga liker, but in years past i wouldn’t have ever chosen to yoga over a day of beach volleyball, a nice long run, or even a trip to the gym.  there aren’t many good things that have come to me as a result of my knee surgery a year and a half ago, but if i had to name one, it would be yoga.

We Opt to Move

last weekend my volleyball partner and i kicked off beach volleyball season 2015 at alki beach with an exciting day and a second place finish. (read all about our exciting tournament and view the pro event photos, here).  the day after our tournament, we had a flight leaving seattle at noon. it would have been easy to sleep in and let our overworked muscles have the rest they deserved; but bodies like ours aren’t very good at resting. instead, we woke ourselves up early, and headed out to find some green in thefirst2hours. there is no better way to combat sore muscles, than with movement.  and we opted to move!

naturally we wanted to move in a beautiful place but our time was limited; so after consulting the google machine, we set our sights on cougar mountain regional wildland park.

In the Money

this past weekend marked the beginning of beach volleyball season 2015 for my partner and i.  we kicked it off with a trip to seattle, a tournament at alki beach, and an undefeated record leading up to the finals match.

it was the first time either of us had competed at alki beach so we weren’t quite sure what to expect out of the competition, the beach itself, or the people.  needless to say, everything and everyone surpassed our expectations and we can’t wait to get back!

Village Fun Runs

i love the month of may.  flowers are blooming. the sun is shining. and outdoor activities are on everyone’s mind.  this year’s may has been even more exciting with big news in the boise area  – we have weekly fun runs!

i recently discovered that the treasure valley is getting a new local running / fitness store, and i am stoked! Fleet Feet Sports is due to open it’s doors in The Village at Meridian this july; but because local owners Brandon and Kimberly Frank are so excited to get involved in the community now, they have decided to bring us fun runs a few months early! woohoo!

Vegas Circuit Training

the last thing i expect when i travel to las vegas, is to encounter a group of dedicated fitness addicts. gamblers, obviously. bachelor and bachelorette groups, of course. partiers, without a doubt. but fitness addicts… that one was unexpected.

usually when i travel i try to incorporate my workouts in with my sight-seeing, and spend time outside.  but when i woke up, i looked out my window, and i saw this:

Queen of the Beach

beach volleyball season, my favorite time of year.  and this year, i kicked the season off with a queen of the beach tournament in salt lake city.  the good people at wasatch beach volleyball host tournaments from may – september at their fantastic facility. this week was particularly spectacular as it was a sunny 75 degrees, but the wasatch mountain peaks in the backdrop were still covered in snow.  it was the perfect day for a tournament.
