regardless of how difficult, or easy, it may be to pull ourselves out of bed in the morning, there are a countless number of reasons to work out in thefirst2hours. here are 5 of those reasons for consideration:
REASON #1 TO WORKOUT IN THEFIRST2HOURS:
we are less likely to skip our work outs
the best reason for working out first thing in the morning, is that we get it out of the way before we are overwhelmed with our daily TODO list.
as the sun rises, obligations and distractions start to take over: the laundry needs to be done, the bossman hands over a new deadline, the kids are hungry, the bills need to be paid, etc…
it is a busy life; but when we wake up early, we can beat those obligations to rise and get our sweat on before the rest of our day begins. if we don’t do it first thing in the morning, there is no guarantee we will be able to come back to it later on in the day.
REASON #2 TO WORKOUT IN THEFIRST2HOURS:
WE WILL REAP THE BENEFITS OF MOOD-ENHANCEMENT AND BE A BETTER VERSION OF OURSELVES.
when it comes to mood-enhancement, exercise is the gift that keeps on giving. Dr. Jeremy Sibold of the University of Vermont at Burlington, concluded in his movement science studies that “Moderate intensity aerobic exercise improves mood immediately, and those improvements can last up to 12 hours.”
if that is the case, then why not take advantage of those mood-boosting effects during daylight hours?! work out early, release those mood-enhancing neurotransmitters, and share that positivity with the world! those in your surroundings will thank you.
REASON #3 TO WORKOUT IN THEFIRST2HOURS:
MISS THE CROWDS
there is nothing worse than getting off of work, heading to the gym, and being bombarded by every other 9-5er within a 20 mile radius trying to squeeze a workout into the same two hour time frame. most people hate fighting for space when they work out. in the limited time we have, we want to get there, give ourselves a swift kick in the rear, and get out.
so go in the morning.
gyms are substantially quieter in the mornings.
and when we are able to complete a morning workout outside, crowds are nonexistent.
REASON #4 TO WORKOUT IN THEFIRST2HOURS:
take advantage of the metabolic jump start
the biggest thing we can do to influence the rate at which our metabolism runs, is exercise.
when we get our heart pumping, our bodies begin turning the food we have consumed into energy, faster. that energy fuels our bodies through our workout, and beyond. we stop exercising, but the caloric burn continues.
so if we get our heart pumping in thefirst2hours, there are a great number of minutes of the day spent at a higher metabolic rate.
REASON #5 TO WORKOUT IN THEFIRST2HOURS:
WE WILL REAP THE BENEFITS OF Mental acuity AND get more use out of our brain.
there are few things as mind-clearing as a good sweat. whether our choice of exercise is a long run, a cross fit workout, or cross country skiing, the act of action allows us to free our mind of troubles and stress. perhaps this is one of the reasons why studies unanimously show a relationship between mental focus and exercise.
Dr. John Ratey, author of “Spark – The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain,” says that exercise improves your brain in the short term by raising your focus for two to three hours afterwards.
a morning workout means that we are setting ourselves up for our strong mental day. the result = productivity.
the list of benefits to working out in thefirst2hours goes on and on. but regardless of when we choose to workout, the important thing is that we do it.
stay fit, friends
