Testing the Salomon XA Pro Trail Runner in Scotland

when adventuring outdoors, it’s important to consider weather conditions.  hope for the best, prepare for the worst. years ago as i was preparing for a 3 week journey trekking through Ireland and Scotland, i knew that a new pair of Goretex hikers were in order.  Ireland and Scotland exemplify the word “green”, because they also exemplify the word “rain”.  and i was going to be ready for it, with my new pair of Salomon XA Pro Trail Runners.

the hiking shoe selection process can be a difficult one. low top vs high top. leather vs synthetics. lighter vs heavier. breathability vs durability. the options are extensive and shoe manufacturers have become more and more tenchologically advanced in the design of their shoes.

while high top hiking boots provide added ankle protection and security, they also have an added rigidness to them.  i don’t like to feel restricted with my movement (or with anything in my life), so when i started shifting through the hiking footwear options, my eyes naturally narrowed in on the trail runners section. i was looking for waterproof hiking footwear that would give me the protection i needed, while providing me with extra mobility.

i came home with the Salmon XA Pro 3D WP shoes. and i have never looked back.

our trip to Ireland and Scotland was a huge success.  my feet stayed dry and protected, even when the climate stayed wet. my good friend and travel companion Reece actually loved my Salomon’s so much, that we decided to make a pit stop in Edinburgh so that he could stop in and pick up a pair for himself.

naturally, we proceeded to document our trip by taking pictures of our Salomon’s in random locations.

since that day, those shoes have accompanied me to the top of the highest peaks in the UK. they have hiked all along the Appalachian Trail. they have joined me on treks through Patagonia’s fantastic Andes Mountains. they have hiked to the top of Idaho’s Sawtooth mountains. and just last week they took me through the Rocky Mountains on a 10 mile hike to Blue Lake.

the manufacturer provides myriad reasons why this shoe is a smart and reliable choice.  those technical points are listed out below; but for those who want to hear from a consumer; i will match and double their rave reviews. i confirm their enthusiasm for this creation. and i will gladly celebrate this shoe here at thefirst2hours so that those reading don’t hesitate in making this purchase.
