This December, I made a commitment to yoga with the 2015 Beginner’s Yoga Challenge. This challenge is hosted by 2 professional yogis – BEACHYOGAGIRL and KINOYOGA – and one host/sponsor – MANTRAYOGA. As the name suggests, this is a yoga challenge for beginners. I have been working on the basic asanas in hopes of being able to further my practice in 2016. Every day a new pose.
This photo outlines the poses that I will practice every day from december 1 – 24, and following are my attempts along with notes of what I have learned thus far.
DAY 1️⃣ of #beginneryoga2015
Downward Facing Dog / Adho Mukha Svanasana
Strengthens the upper body, arms, shoulders, chest and legs.
Stretches chest, shoulders.
Stretches the whole back of the body, ankles, calves, hamstrings, spine.
Calms the mind.
Overall energizes the body. Stimulates blood circulation.
DAY 2️⃣ of #BeginnerYoga2015
Strengthens arms, shoulder and leg muscles.
Develops core stability.
Prepared body for inversions and arm balances
NOTES FROM THEFIRST2HOURS: This yoga pose is different than most in that it requires more strength than flexibility. For this reason it is one of the easier ones for me. As an athlete with muscle I can chaturanga all day long.

DAY 3️⃣ of #BeginnerYoga2015
Warrior II / Virabhadrasana II
Strengthens and stretches the legs and ankles.
Stretches the groins, chest and lungs, shoulders.
Stimulates abdominal organs.
Relieves backaches, especially through second trimester of pregnancy.
Therapeutic for carpal tunnel syndrome, flat feet, infertility, osteoporosis, and sciatica.
NOTES FROM THEFIRST2HOURS: This is one of those seemingly easy yoga poses that can be taken to a whole new level with a bit of focus. Push those heels into the ground. Stretch the fingers to keep the shoulders wide. Deepen that lunge without compromising the angles.A photo posted on Dec 3, 2015 at 5:00am PST
DAY 4️⃣ of #BeginnerYoga2015
Half Moon Pose / Ardha Chandrasana
Strengthens the abdomen, ankles, thighs, buttocks, and spine.
Stretches the groins, hamstrings and calves, shoulders, chest, and spine.
Improves coordination and sense of balance
NOTES FROM THEFIRST2HOURS: This was the most challenging pose for me thus far. Getting that external rotation is all about flexibility of the hips. My weakness. The pose also requires focus to keep the balance. I need more half moon in my life.See the full review of the featured LULULEMON STUDIO RACERBACK TANK at ✳️www.thefirst2hours.com/blog✳️A photo posted on Dec 4, 2015 at 4:55am PST
DAY 5️⃣ of #BeginnerYoga2015
Upward Plank Pose / Purvottanasana
Strengthens the arms, wrists and legs.
NOTES FROM THEFIRST2HOURS: I call this my “Lady In Red” shot and I adore this little number from @garageclothing . This pose reminds me to stretch parts of my body that I may occasionally neglect. Those wrists want to be flexible too! ✳️www.thefirst2hours.com✳️A photo posted on Dec 5, 2015 at 5:40am PST
DAY 6️⃣ of #BeginnerYoga2015
Tree Pose / Vrksasana

Stretches the groins and inner thighs, chest and shoulders.
Improves sense of balance.
Relieves sciatica and reduces flat feet.

DAY 7️⃣ of #BeginnerYoga2015
Lord of the Dance Pose / Natarajasana
Stretches the shoulders and chest.
Stretches the thighs, groins, and abdomen.
Strengthens the legs and ankles.
NOTES FROM THEFIRST2HOURS: ☀️The advanced versions of this pose are simply beautiful. Someday I aim to grab my leg with both arms above my head. I’ve got a long way to go! And a short torso which makes this an even greater challenge. ☀️www.thefirst2hours.com☀️Featured here: @aloyoga leggings #beagoddess @champion sports bra, compliments of @target #targetdeals And my yoga mat towell from @mandukayogaA photo posted on Dec 7, 2015 at 5:02am PST

If you would like to see the up-to-date photos, feel free to follow me on Instagram, or stay tuned here for the next update. And just because it’s too cute too not share, check out this image of my sweet niece and nephew who are supporting me along this yoga journey:
